Day 5

Day 5: Praying for the Lost during Fasting

Matthew 9:35-38 ESV
"And Jesus went throughout all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom and healing every disease and every affliction..."

In this post, we'll explore the connection between fasting, prayer, and intercession for the lost. Understanding Jesus' compassionate approach to the crowds, we'll look into the urgency of praying for the harvest.

Fasting and Intercession:
Fasting is more than abstaining from food; it's a spiritual discipline that enhances our connection with God. Matthew 9:35-38 illustrates Jesus' holistic ministry – teaching, proclaiming the Gospel, and healing. During our fast, we align ourselves with Jesus' heart for the lost, interceding for their salvation. Jesus's compassion for the crowds, should ignite a similar passion within us. As we fast, let's pray fervently for those who are yet to experience the transformative power of the Gospel. May our intercession pave the way for the Lord to send out laborers into the harvest. The call to pray earnestly for laborers in the harvest implies recruitment. Through our prayers, we participate in the divine process of bringing new laborers into the Kingdom. It's not just merely about increasing numbers but ensuring that more souls actively contribute to the mission of making disciples. Our prayers during fasting become a rescue mission. We lift up those who are in darkness, bound by sin and despair. Just as Jesus rescued the hurting and the broken, we, too, seek to rescue souls from the clutches of darkness through our intercession.

Closing Prayer:
Heavenly Father, as we engage in fasting and prayer, let our hearts resonate with the compassion You demonstrated. May our intercession be a powerful force in the rescue mission for the lost. Send out laborers into the harvest, and may our prayers contribute to the expansion of Your Kingdom. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
