Day 18
Day 18: Fasting as Preparation
Matthew 4:1-2 NIV
Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. After fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry.
In Matthew 4:1-2, we witness Jesus' intentional choice to fast for forty days before facing temptation. This deliberate act of preparation teaches us the significance of fasting as a season of refining and fortifying ourselves for the challenges ahead.
Jesus' wilderness experience reveals that His fasting wasn't just a physical act but a spiritual preparation for the intense trials He would face. As believers, we can draw inspiration from this example, recognizing that our times of fasting serve as crucial seasons of preparation, aligning our hearts and minds with God's will.
Much like Moses spent forty years in the desert before leading the Israelites, our times of fasting can be seen as our personal wilderness – a place where we draw near to God, seek His guidance, and prepare ourselves for the plans He has for our lives.
Closing Prayer:
Heavenly Father, as we embark on the season of preparation through fasting, may our hearts be molded and aligned with Yours. Just as Jesus used His time in the wilderness to fortify Himself for the challenges ahead, guide us in using fasting as a tool for spiritual preparation. May our fasting draw us closer to Your heart and strengthen our resolve to follow Your path. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
