Day 20
Day 20: Fasting as Surrender
1 Samuel 1:10 NIV
In her deep anguish, Hannah prayed to the Lord, weeping bitterly.
Hannah's heartfelt prayer, accompanied by fasting, is a poignant example of fasting as surrender. In moments of deep anguish, fasting becomes a way to surrender our desires, fears, and concerns to God, trusting in His sovereignty.
Hannah's act of fasting is intertwined with surrendering her desire for a child to God. In our own lives, fasting becomes a powerful expression of surrender – a way to release our grip on control and place our trust in God's perfect plans, even when faced with deep challenges.
Fasting is not only about abstaining from physical sustenance but surrendering our will to God. It's a practice that aligns our hearts with the truth that God's plans are higher than ours, and our trust in Him is paramount. Let us not forget this incredible truth today, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight." (Proverbs 3:5-6 NIV)
Closing Prayer:
Heavenly Father, as we engage in fasting as an act of surrender, may our hearts be as open. In our moments of deep anguish, help us surrender our desires, fears, and concerns to You. May our fasting be an expression of trust, acknowledging Your sovereignty over our lives. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
