Recognizing the Call to Battle
Front Lines - Recognizing the Call to Battle
Judges 6:11-12, 14-15 NIV
"The angel of the Lord came and sat down under the oak in Ophrah that belonged to Joash the Abiezrite, where his son Gideon was threshing wheat in a winepress to keep it from the Midianites. When the angel of the Lord appeared to Gideon, he said, 'The Lord is with you, mighty warrior…'"
As we conclude our series, "Front Lines," we dive into the inspiring story of Gideon. His initial response to the divine call reflects our own hesitations when facing spiritual battles. It's a call for us to recognize the urgency of our position on the front lines and understand the authority God has vested in us.
In the story of Gideon, we witness a man minding his own business, hiding away from the enemy's oppression. Little did he know that a divine visitation awaited him, transforming him from a farmer into a mighty warrior. As a church, we too must recognize that we are called to engage in the spiritual battles of our world. Gideon's reluctance mirrors our own struggles to receive the call God places on our lives. Doubt, insecurity, and fear often hinder our ability to embrace the divine calling. It's time for us to shed these limitations and accept the authority bestowed upon us by God. God has not called us to do anything in our own power and strength, but to wholly lean on Him to accomplish His plans. Just remember his words to Gideon whenever you are feeling discouraged, "I will be with you..." (Judges 6:16 NIV).
Closing Prayer:
Heavenly Father, help us recognize the call to battle. As Gideon hesitated, we too find ourselves questioning our worthiness. Strengthen our faith to accept the authority You've given us. May we rise as mighty warriors on the front lines, trusting in Your presence and guidance. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
