Grace for the Humble

James 4:6-8 NKJV
”But He gives more grace. Therefore He says: 'God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble.' Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.“

In these verses from James 4:6-8, I am reminded of the importance of humility and submission to God, as well as the promise of His grace to the humble.

Reflecting on the context of these verses, I am struck by James' emphasis on humility. Despite being the half-brother of Jesus, James introduces himself as a servant of Jesus, setting an example of humility for all believers. This serves as a reminder that true submission to God requires humility and a willingness to put aside pride.

As I consider the destructive nature of pride, I am reminded that it is the root cause of rebellion against God. Pride leads us to elevate our own opinions and desires above God's will, hindering our ability to submit to Him fully. However, as James writes, God gives grace to the humble, empowering us to resist the devil and draw near to God.

I am challenged to examine my own heart and to cultivate humility in my relationship with God. By drawing near to Him and purifying my heart, I can experience the fullness of His grace and resist the temptations of pride. May we continually submit to God's will and live in humble obedience to Him.

Prayer:
Heavenly Father, I thank You for Your Word and the wisdom it imparts. Help me to cultivate humility in my heart and to submit to Your will in all things. Grant me the strength to resist the enemy and to draw near to You each day. In Jesus' name, Amen.
