Dying to Self

John 12:24 (NIV)
“I tell you the truth, unless a kernel of wheat is planted in the soil and dies, it remains alone. But its death will produce many new kernels—a plentiful harvest of new lives.”

The concept of dying to self is central to cultivating a life-giving legacy. Just as a seed must die to bear fruit, we too must die to our selfish desires and ambitions to produce a legacy that impacts generations to come.

In Galatians 2:20, Paul writes, “I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me.” This profound truth emphasizes the importance of dying to self and allowing Christ to live through us. Jesus Himself exemplified this principle by laying down His life for the salvation of humanity.

Dying to self requires us to surrender our own will and desires to God’s will. It means crucifying our fleshly desires and aligning our lives with the purposes of God. This process is not easy—it requires sacrifice and humility—but the rewards are eternal.

Living by faith becomes the hallmark of those who have truly died to self. It means stepping out in obedience, even when it doesn’t make sense in the natural. It's about trusting God's plans and purposes above our own, knowing that His ways are higher than ours.

Reflecting Christ in our lives is the ultimate goal of dying to self. Our legacy is not about our own achievements, but about reflecting the character of Christ to those around us. It's about selflessly serving others, loving unconditionally, and pointing people to the life-changing power of the gospel.

Prayer:
Heavenly Father, help us to die to our selfish desires and ambitions, and to live for You alone. May our lives be a reflection of Your love and grace, and may our legacy be one that glorifies Your name for generations to come. In Jesus' name, Amen.
