Awareness without Action

James 1:22 (NIV)
Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.

James 1:22 reminds us that merely hearing the word is not enough; we must also act on it. Awareness without action is a dangerous place to be. There is a phase in our lives where we become aware of problems but we can choose to ignore them.

In our spiritual lives, this phase occurs when we are convicted of sin but choose not to act on it. We hear God's word, recognize the areas where we fall short, but fail to take the necessary steps to address those issues. This inaction leads to spiritual stagnation and ongoing defeat.

The consequences of ignoring known issues are severe. Isaiah 59:2 tells us that our iniquities separate us from God. When we choose to ignore God's conviction, we create a barrier between ourselves and Him. David describes this feeling in Psalm 32:3-5, where he talks about his bones wasting away and his strength being dried up because of unconfessed sin.

Ignoring known issues leads to spiritual discomfort and separation from God. It's like living with a toothache, constantly compensating for the pain but never addressing the root cause. Eventually, the pain becomes unbearable, and we are forced to deal with the issue.

Awareness without action is a recipe for ongoing defeat and spiritual stagnation. We must not only hear God's word but also act on it. Addressing known issues in our lives brings us closer to God and allows us to experience His healing and freedom.

Prayer:
Lord, we ask for Your forgiveness for the times we have been aware of our sins but failed to take action. Help us to be doers of Your word and not just hearers. Give us the courage and strength to address the issues in our lives and to walk in obedience to Your commands. Draw us closer to You and help us to live lives that reflect Your love and grace. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
