We are Witnesses
John 1:14 (NIV)
"The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth."
Being a witness involves more than merely observing; it requires us to share the transformative experiences we have had with God. In John 1:14, the Apostle John reflects on witnessing the glory of Jesus, who came from the Father full of grace and truth. As believers, we are called to be witnesses of what God has done in our lives and to share these experiences with others. This role is crucial for spreading the message of the Gospel and demonstrating God's power and love.
To be an effective witness, we must first recognize the significance of our own experiences with God. Each of us has a personal testimony of how God has worked in our lives—whether through answered prayers, moments of guidance, or acts of provision. Sharing these stories not only strengthens our own faith but also serves as a powerful tool for evangelism. By recounting the ways in which God has been faithful, we provide tangible evidence of His presence and power in our lives, inviting others to experience the same.
Our witness extends beyond our personal experiences to include the collective testimony of God's work in the world. The early Church, as described in Acts, was marked by a profound sense of shared witness. The apostles and early believers eagerly shared their experiences of Jesus’ resurrection and the outpouring of the Holy Spirit. This collective testimony fueled the spread of Christianity and demonstrated the transformative power of God in their communities. Today, our shared witness—through testimonies, stories, and communal experiences—continues to play a vital role in the expansion of the Gospel.
Being a witness also involves actively looking for and seizing opportunities to share our experiences with others. It means being prepared to discuss our faith with friends, family, and colleagues, and being open to sharing the ways God has worked in our lives. This proactive approach helps us to fulfill our calling as witnesses and to contribute to the broader mission of spreading the Gospel. As we share our stories, we invite others to see and experience the grace and truth of God, just as John and the early believers did.
Prayer:
Lord, thank You for the personal and collective experiences of Your grace and power in our lives. Help us to be faithful witnesses, sharing the ways You have worked in us with those around us. Give us the courage and wisdom to speak about Your goodness and to invite others into the transformative experience of knowing You. May our testimonies be a beacon of hope and a catalyst for spreading Your Gospel. In Jesus' name, we pray, Amen.
