Moving Forward
Isaiah 43:18-19 (NIV)
Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.
Disposaphobia, the fear of letting go, doesn’t just apply to physical things. It often manifests as our reluctance to release the emotional and spiritual baggage we carry from the past. Many of us get trapped in the memories of past mistakes, regrets, and hurts. We find comfort in dwelling on them because they’ve become familiar. But this fear of letting go stops us from moving forward into the new things God has for us.
God’s word is clear: we must forget the former things and make room for the new. Holding onto the past not only limits our growth but also blinds us to the new blessings and opportunities God is preparing. The enemy wants to keep us focused on what’s behind us, convincing us that our failures define us. But God is always doing a new thing. He is the God of restoration and renewal, and His plans for us are far greater than our past mistakes.
If we continue to hoard spiritual baggage—whether it’s guilt, shame, or disappointment—we’ll miss the new paths God is creating for us. He promises to make a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland. But to perceive it, we have to let go. It’s time to release the past and trust in the future He has already prepared. The key to moving forward is faith—faith that God’s grace is bigger than our failures and His plans are better than our past.
Prayer:
Father, I ask for Your help in letting go of my past. Remove the fear and reluctance I have to release the things that no longer serve me. Open my eyes to the new things You are doing in my life, and give me the strength to move forward with confidence in Your plans. In Jesus’ name, amen.
