Fear is Misplaced Faith
Matthew 17:20 (NLT)
“You don’t have enough faith,” Jesus told them. “I tell you the truth, if you had faith even as small as a mustard seed, you could say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it would move. Nothing would be impossible.”
Fear is not just a feeling but a form of misplaced faith. When we allow fear to control us, we are, in essence, placing more trust in our problems than in God's power to resolve them. Jesus taught that even a small amount of faith can move mountains, yet how often do we allow fear to build mountains in our lives? The same energy we use to worry could instead be used to trust God. Fear arises when we put more faith in the obstacles we face than in the God who holds all authority.
What we fear the most reveals where we trust God the least. If we are afraid of failure, it shows we trust more in our abilities than in God’s provision. If we fear rejection, we are placing our hope in human approval rather than in God’s unconditional love. Shifting our faith back to God means we must choose to believe in His promises more than we believe in the lies that fear whispers. Fear is powerful because it distorts our perspective, making the problem seem bigger than our God. But we know that nothing is too difficult for Him (Jeremiah 32:17).
We must recognize fear for what it truly is: a thief of our faith. Each time we entertain fear, we are giving away the faith God has given us to stand firm. We must realign our faith with God’s truth, trusting that His plans are good, and His power is sufficient. Don’t let fear rob you of the miracles God wants to perform in your life. Replace your fear with faith, and watch how God moves mountains on your behalf.
Prayer:
Lord, I confess that sometimes I allow fear to take hold of my heart. Help me to see where my faith has been misplaced and realign it with Your truth. Remind me that You are greater than any fear I may face. Fill me with courage and help me to trust You more deeply in every situation. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
