Run to the Tower, Not the Cave
Proverbs 18:10 (NKJV)
“The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous run to it and are safe.”
In times of fear and uncertainty, we all have a choice: will we run to the safety of God’s presence, or will we retreat to the caves of fear? Too often, we find ourselves withdrawing into the "caves" of isolation, despair, and hopelessness when challenges arise. Just as the prophets in 1 Kings 18 hid in fear rather than standing in their God-given authority, we too can be tempted to seek safety in our fears instead of in God. But the Bible tells us that the name of the Lord is a strong tower—a place of safety and refuge for those who trust in Him.
The cave symbolizes fear and withdrawal. It is where dreams die, and hope fades because we are paralyzed by what we cannot control. But God calls us to run to Him, not to the cave. He is the strong tower where we find true safety and security. When we choose to run to God in our time of need, we are placing our trust in His ability to protect, guide, and deliver us from every threat. His name alone has the power to keep us safe, and His love is the shield that surrounds us in every situation.
Running to the strong tower means surrendering our fears and trusting that God is bigger than the problems we face. It requires us to step out of the cave of fear and into the confidence of His promises. The Lord is our refuge, and when we run to Him, we are reminded of His power, His authority, and His ability to do what we cannot. Don’t let fear keep you in the cave. Instead, run to the strong tower and find the safety that only God can provide.
Prayer:
Lord, thank You for being my strong tower and my place of refuge. Help me to run to You when fear threatens to overwhelm me, and keep me from retreating to the caves of doubt and despair. Strengthen my trust in You and remind me that You are my ever-present help in times of trouble. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
