Filled with Power, Not Performance
Acts 1:8 (NKJV)
“But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
In our Christian walk, there is a profound difference between performing for God and being empowered by Him. Many believers fall into the trap of equating their worth and effectiveness with their performance, leading to a faith that is driven by obligation rather than empowerment. Acts 1:8 reminds us that true power comes from the Holy Spirit, not from our efforts or abilities. It is through His empowerment that we can effectively bear witness to Christ in our lives and the world around us.
When we prioritize performance, we often measure our spiritual maturity by external factors—how often we attend church, how well we know the Scriptures, or how impressive our outreach efforts appear. However, this mindset can lead to burnout and disappointment. In contrast, when we are filled with the Holy Spirit, we operate out of a place of rest and reliance on God’s grace. We become conduits of His love and power, allowing Him to work through us rather than striving to prove ourselves. This shift in perspective transforms our approach to faith and ministry.
To be filled with power rather than performance means seeking a genuine relationship with God. It involves cultivating a heart that desires to know Him deeply and to be used by Him in ways that align with His will. As we surrender our need for validation and performance, we open ourselves to the transformative work of the Holy Spirit. This empowers us not just to act in His name but to live as authentic representatives of His Kingdom, overflowing with His grace and truth in every area of our lives.
Prayer:
Father, help us to rely on Your power rather than our performance. Fill us with Your Holy Spirit so we can authentically represent You in this world, and empower us to fulfill the call You have placed on our lives. Amen.
