Do I Really Trust God?
Matthew 6:33 (NIV)
"But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well."
Tithing is not just a financial act; it is a test of our trust in God. Matthew 6:33 calls us to seek God’s kingdom first, trusting that when we prioritize Him, He will provide everything we need. Tithing answers the fundamental question: Do we truly trust God to provide for us? It’s one thing to say that we trust God, but when it comes to our finances, we are often reluctant to surrender control. Tithing requires us to step out in faith and trust that God will do more with the 90% we keep than we could ever do with 100% of our income.
The act of tithing demonstrates our belief that God is our ultimate provider. It’s a declaration that we trust Him with our future, our needs, and our dreams. It’s easy to believe that we need to hold onto every penny for ourselves in order to secure our well-being, but tithing teaches us that God’s provision is greater than our own efforts. He has promised to provide for His children, and when we give, we show that we believe His promises are true. The act of tithing challenges our hearts to rely on God, not on our own abilities or resources.
Trusting God with our finances is an ongoing process. It’s about surrendering control over and over again, believing that His ways are better than ours. When we tithe, we are not just paying a bill or meeting a requirement; we are exercising faith. Every time we give, we are declaring that we trust God to take care of us in ways we cannot even imagine. Tithing becomes an opportunity to grow in our relationship with God and to see His faithfulness firsthand.
Prayer:
Father, we surrender our finances to You today. We acknowledge that You are our Provider, and we trust You to meet all of our needs. Help us to walk in faith, not fear, and to continually trust that You will take care of us as we put You first. Teach us to rely on Your provision, and may our tithing reflect our trust in Your goodness and faithfulness. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
