You Have My Heart

Proverbs 3:9 (NIV)
"Honor the Lord with your wealth, with the first fruits of all your crops."

Giving is not about what God wants from us; it is about what He wants for us. In Proverbs 3:9, we are called to honor God with our wealth, particularly through the firstfruits—the first portion of all that we have. Tithing is a way we can honor God, recognizing that everything we have is a gift from Him. The word "tithe" itself means "tenth," and it refers to giving the first 10% of our income back to God through His house, the local church. This practice has been around since the time of Abraham and is rooted in the understanding that God is the ultimate Provider.

When we tithe, we are offering God more than money—we are offering our hearts. Tithing is not just a financial transaction; it is a heart transaction. It is a declaration that God is first in our lives and that we trust Him with everything, including our finances. The practice of giving the first 10% of our income is a tangible way to show God that we believe He is worthy of our trust and that we rely on Him for our provision. It's not about how much we give; it's about whether we are willing to honor God with our best, even before we see how the rest of our needs will be met.

God doesn’t need our money, but He desires our hearts. When we give, we are acknowledging that everything we have belongs to Him and that we trust Him to provide for us. Tithing is one of the clearest ways we can demonstrate our faith in God’s provision. It’s a practice that shifts our focus from scarcity to abundance, from self-sufficiency to dependence on God's grace. As we honor God with the tithe, we position ourselves to experience His faithfulness and blessings in greater ways, knowing that He will always provide for His people.

Prayer:
Lord, thank You for being the source of every good gift in our lives. We want to honor You with the first fruits of all that You have entrusted to us. Teach us to trust You fully with our finances and to always put You first in every area of our lives. May our tithing be an expression of our love for You and our faith in Your provision. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
