Margin to Serve
Hebrews 13:2
"Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for by so doing some people have shown hospitality to angels without knowing it."
In our fast-paced world, it’s easy to forget the importance of pausing to serve others. We’re often consumed by our schedules, rushing from one task to the next, and missing opportunities to be the hands and feet of Christ. However, Hebrews 13:2 reminds us of the significance of hospitality and service, encouraging us to open our hearts to those around us—even strangers. The act of serving others, especially when it inconveniences us, has eternal value and can even lead to unexpected blessings. Often, it’s in these pauses—when we stop to serve—that God reveals His presence in the most unexpected ways.
Serving with a generous heart is a reflection of God’s grace in our lives. We are called to serve others, not because we deserve to, but because God has so freely given to us. Jesus modeled this kind of selfless service throughout His ministry, showing mercy and love to those who least deserved it. The act of serving others goes beyond fulfilling a need—it becomes a means of reflecting God’s love, grace, and mercy. When we pause to serve, we are reminded of all that God has done for us, and we are called to extend that same grace to others.
When we live a life of service, we step into a rhythm of grace where we do not expect repayment or recognition. True service often happens in the quiet moments, when no one else is watching, and it is not done out of duty but out of a heart full of love for God and His people. Just like Jesus washed His disciples’ feet, serving is often a humble act that demonstrates love in ways words never can. So let us make room in our busy lives to pause and serve, trusting that God is working through our acts of kindness in ways we may never fully understand.
Prayer:
Lord, help us to slow down and see the opportunities around us to serve. Teach us to pause, not out of obligation, but out of love for You and for others. May our service be an expression of the grace You have shown us, and may we be faithful in serving those who are in need. Open our eyes to the moments where You are calling us to reflect Your love. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
