Trust is Greater than Understanding

Proverbs 3:5-6
"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight."

Trusting God can feel impossible when life doesn’t make sense. Joseph faced this challenge when an angel told him to take Mary as his wife, even though she was pregnant by the Holy Spirit. From a human perspective, this defied logic and cultural norms. Yet Joseph chose trust over understanding. He embraced God’s plan, even when it didn’t align with his expectations, because he believed in the character and faithfulness of God.

Trusting God means surrendering our need to understand the “why” behind every situation. As finite beings, our perspective is limited, but God sees the full picture. Isaiah 55:8-9 reminds us, “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord. God’s plans often require us to step into the unknown, but His purposes are always good. Like Joseph, we must trust that God’s promises will come to fruition, even if we don’t see how in the moment.

When we trust God over our understanding, we open the door to His peace. Instead of being weighed down by worry or confusion, we can rest in the assurance that He is in control. Joseph’s story encourages us to prioritize faith over fear, confidence in God over clarity about the situation. Trust in God isn’t just an act of obedience—it’s a declaration of belief in His sovereignty and love.

Prayer:
Lord, teach me to trust You even when I don’t understand. Help me surrender my questions, fears, and doubts to Your greater plan. Remind me that Your ways are higher and better than mine. Strengthen my faith to walk in obedience, knowing that You are always working for my good and Your glory. Amen.
