Eternal over Earthly

Colossians 3:2 (NIV)
Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.

When we face trials, it’s easy to become consumed by the present moment. The heat of the fire, the pressure of the trial, can make us lose sight of the bigger picture. But what Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego teach us is that our perspective must be eternal, not temporal. Their decision to stand firm in their convictions wasn’t just about rejecting the king’s decree; it was about living with an eternal mindset, understanding that what happens here on earth is not the end.

Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego faced death, yet they trusted God, knowing that even if their lives were lost, they would gain something far greater in eternity. In our own lives, we must remember that the trials we face are temporary, but the rewards of faithfulness to God are eternal. The apostle Paul writes in 2 Corinthians 4:17 that “our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all.”

When we view our circumstances from an eternal perspective, we find the strength to endure. We understand that while earthly trials may cause pain or discomfort, they cannot take away the hope we have in Christ. Jesus, who conquered death, gives us the ability to live in light of eternity, trusting that our suffering is not in vain.

Are you seeing your trials from an eternal perspective? Remember, what we endure here is nothing compared to the glory that awaits us.

Prayer:
God, help us to fix our eyes on You and not be consumed by the struggles of this world. Give us an eternal perspective in all that we face, and help us to trust in the hope of the eternal rewards You promise. Amen.
