Doubt Dies in the Desert
Numbers 14:20-23 (NKJV)
"So the Lord said: ‘I have pardoned, according to your word; but truly, as I live, all the earth shall be filled with the glory of the Lord… because all these men who have seen My glory and the signs which I did in Egypt and in the wilderness, and have put Me to the test now these ten times, and have not heeded My voice, they certainly shall not see the land of which I swore to their fathers, nor shall any of those who rejected Me see it.’”
The Israelites spent forty years in the wilderness—not because God’s promise had failed them, but because their doubt and unbelief kept them from stepping into what God had already prepared. Despite all the miracles they witnessed, the parting of the Red Sea, manna from heaven, and water from a rock, they refused to believe that God could deliver on His promise of the land flowing with milk and honey. As a result, they were sentenced to wander in circles until the faithlessness within them died off.
In Numbers 14:20-23, God pardons the people but allows their faithless generation to pass away. The wilderness became a place of waiting—not because God had abandoned them, but because their doubts had to die off before they could move forward. God’s mercy is great, but there’s a moment when the doubt in our hearts must come to an end. We cannot enter God’s promises while still holding onto the lies of the enemy and the fear that keeps us bound.
How long will you keep going in circles before the doubt and unbelief die off in your life? How long will you allow fear and past failures to define your future? God has already given us His promises, but like the Israelites, we have to let go of the doubt that holds us back. There is purpose in the waiting, but it’s up to us to decide to move forward in faith. God is calling us to trust Him completely and to let the faithlessness within us die off so that we can walk in His promises with boldness.
Prayer:
Lord, we admit that doubt has held us in circles longer than we’d like to admit. We ask You to help us let go of the fear, unbelief, and lies that have kept us from stepping into the fullness of Your promises. Help us to trust You fully and let our doubt die off, so that we may walk in the victory and purpose You’ve prepared for us. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
