Lead Like Jesus
Matthew 20:26-28
"But whoever would be great among you must be your servant, and whoever would be first among you must be your slave; even as the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many."
In a world that often equates leadership with power and control, Jesus completely redefined what it means to lead. He demonstrated that true leadership is not about position or prestige, but about serving others. The greatest among us, according to Jesus, is the one who serves — the one who looks out for others, lifts them up, and puts their needs before their own.
Jesus didn’t just talk about servant leadership — He lived it. From washing His disciples' feet to laying down His life on the cross, He showed us that leadership involves sacrifice, humility, and a willingness to put others before ourselves. In a world that often celebrates self-promotion, Jesus challenges us to lead by example, using our influence to bless others and point them to Him.
As we follow Jesus’ example of servant leadership, we are called to lead with compassion, integrity, and grace. Our leadership should reflect His heart for people, focusing on building them up and helping them become all they were created to be. Leading like Jesus means living a life that prioritizes serving over being served, loving over judging, and giving over receiving. This kind of leadership is counter-cultural, but it is the leadership that Jesus demonstrated and calls us to emulate.
Prayer:
Lord, thank You for the example of Jesus, who showed us what true leadership looks like. Help me to lead others with humility, grace, and love. Teach me to serve others as Jesus served, and may my life be a reflection of His heart for those around me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
