Seeing Beyond the Struggle

2 Kings 6:16-17
"Don't be afraid," the prophet answered. "Those who are with us are more than those who are with them." And Elisha prayed, "Open his eyes, Lord, so that he may see." Then the Lord opened the servant's eyes, and he looked and saw the hills full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha."

When we are in the middle of a struggle, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed and outnumbered. The battles we face often seem insurmountable, whether they’re emotional, relational, or physical. We may look at our circumstances and wonder how we’ll ever overcome them. Much like Elisha’s servant, our eyes can be clouded by fear, and we may fail to see the bigger picture God has in store.

In the story of Elisha, the servant woke up to find their city surrounded by the enemy’s army. He was afraid and saw only the immediate danger before him. But Elisha, full of faith, prayed that God would open the servant's eyes to see the truth. In that moment, the servant’s eyes were opened to the supernatural army of God’s angels, surrounding and protecting them. The enemy, though fearsome, was no match for God’s power.

This powerful moment reminds us of an important truth: the reality of our struggles often blinds us to the greater reality of God’s presence and power. Just as Elisha’s servant needed his spiritual eyes opened, we too need to see beyond our circumstances. When we focus only on the battle in front of us, we can lose sight of the fact that God is working on our behalf in ways we cannot always see. His angels, His presence, and His power are surrounding us, even when the struggle feels overwhelming.

Our vision needs to shift. We must learn to see with spiritual eyes, trusting that God’s power is always at work, even when it doesn’t seem like it. Just as Elisha could look beyond the immediate danger and see God’s divine protection, we can look beyond our current struggles and trust that God’s purpose is unfolding in the background. What seems like a battle we can’t win is actually a battle already won in the spiritual realm.

Prayer:
Lord, when I feel surrounded by my struggles and my vision is clouded by fear, open my eyes to see Your presence and power in my situation. Help me to trust that You are always at work, even when I can’t see it. May I develop spiritual vision to see beyond my current challenges and recognize the truth that You are with me, fighting on my behalf. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
