Start with Posture

Lamentations 3:25 (NIV)
"The Lord is good to those whose hope is in him, to the one who seeks him."

Our posture before God greatly affects how we hear from Him. When we’re frustrated, angry, or impatient, it can be difficult to hear His voice clearly. The posture we take in our hearts and minds determines whether we will recognize His voice or miss it altogether. Lamentations 3:25 reminds us that God is good to those who hope in Him and seek Him. The key here is in seeking Him with the right posture—one of humility, openness, and trust.

Consider the analogy of a crossword puzzle. If you start with the wrong word, the rest of the puzzle doesn’t make sense. Similarly, if we approach God with the wrong heart posture—looking for answers on our own terms or demanding that He act according to our expectations—then we will miss His voice when He speaks. Our posture needs to be one of submission, saying, "God, I trust You, even when I don’t understand. I’m seeking You with a heart ready to listen."

The right posture involves quieting our hearts and removing the distractions around us. It’s about coming before God in a space where we can hear His still, small voice. It’s not about rushing through our prayers or demanding immediate answers, but instead sitting in His presence and being open to whatever He wants to reveal. The better we know God, the more we can hear Him clearly. Just as we recognize the voice of a loved one in a crowded room, we begin to hear God’s voice more distinctly the closer we draw to Him.

If you’ve been struggling to hear from God, check your posture. Are you coming to Him with impatience, expecting Him to speak on your terms? Or are you approaching Him with an open heart, ready to hear what He has to say, even if it’s different from what you expected? God is always speaking, but our posture determines how well we hear Him.

Prayer:
Father, help me to approach You with the right posture. Teach me to seek You with a humble and open heart, trusting that You are speaking in every moment of my life. Remove distractions and impatience from my heart so that I can hear Your voice clearly. I trust that You are guiding me, and I want to be attentive to Your will. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
