Lord, Give Me One More

Mark 2:3 (NIV)
“Some men came, bringing to him a paralyzed man, carried by four of them."

On May 5, 1945, amidst the chaos of Hacksaw Ridge, Desmond Doss did the unthinkable. While the rest of his unit retreated under heavy fire, he ran toward the wounded, one after another, pulling them to safety. With no weapon in hand—only his Bible, his faith, and a stretcher—he saved 75 men that night. After every rescue, he prayed, “Lord, give me one more.” That prayer became the heartbeat of a hero.

When you read Mark 2, you find four men with that same relentless spirit. Their friend couldn’t walk, but they could carry. And they refused to let the crowd, the roof, or the risk stop them. Just like Desmond, they knew the cost. But they also knew the mission. And for them, it wasn’t about recognition—it was about rescue.

What if that became our prayer too? “Lord, give me one more.” One more student to pour into. One more broken heart to lift. One more neighbor to invite. One more prodigal to love. Our calling isn’t to fix people—it’s to carry them to the only One who can.

The stretcher Desmond Doss used on a battlefield is the same kind of faith we’re called to live out every day. A faith that carries others when they can’t walk. A faith that risks comfort and reputation. A faith that says, “I will not stop—not until I’ve brought them to Jesus.”

Prayer:
Lord, give me one more. One more life to reach, one more soul to carry, one more chance to show Your love. Fill me with boldness like Desmond. Give me the faith of those four friends. Help me see every person as worth the rescue. And may I never grow tired of carrying people to You. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
