A Broken Heart
Luke 19:41 (NLV)
“But as he came closer to Jerusalem and saw the city ahead, he began to weep.”
Jesus wept. Not because He was weak, but because He was full of love. As He approached Jerusalem, He didn’t see buildings and crowds—He saw souls. People who were lost, unaware of the destruction heading their way. His heart broke for the ones who rejected Him, and in that moment, He showed us what it looks like to carry the burden of the lost.
When is the last time your heart broke for someone else’s spiritual condition? It’s easy to get so consumed with our own battles that we forget others are fighting theirs without the hope we have in Christ. We’re so focused on staying saved ourselves that we forget we’re called to help others get there too. But if Jesus wept over the lost, then as His followers, our hearts should break too.
The four friends in Mark 2 didn’t carry their friend out of obligation. They carried him out of compassion. His pain became their pain. His paralysis became their mission. That’s what it means to be broken for others—to take on their burden and carry it all the way to Jesus.
A broken heart is not a weak heart. It’s a heart that’s aligned with the mission of Jesus. And when we carry the pain of others to the feet of Christ, we begin to reflect His love in the most powerful way.
Prayer:
Lord, help me not to look away. Break my heart for those who are far from You. Let me feel what You feel when You see a lost soul. Give me compassion that leads to action, and boldness that doesn’t hesitate. I don’t want to be numb—I want to care like You care. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
