The Enemy's Threats Can't Stop You
Nehemiah 2:20 (NIV)
“I answered them by saying, ‘The God of heaven will give us success. We his servants will start rebuilding, but as for you, you have no share in Jerusalem or any claim or historic right to it.’”
Nehemiah’s mission to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem was met with intense opposition. Sanballat, Tobiah, and Geshem mocked him, questioning the audacity of his plans and attempting to sow doubt in the hearts of those working with him. They used threats and ridicule, attempting to undermine the mission by attacking Nehemiah personally. But Nehemiah refused to be swayed. His confidence was not in his own abilities but in the power of God to accomplish the task He had given him.
The world often challenges our God-given purposes with man-made threats. Whether these come in the form of criticism, opposition, or obstacles that seem insurmountable, we are reminded that God's calling does not depend on the approval or threats of man. Nehemiah knew that the mission he was on was divinely appointed, and no amount of resistance would cause him to back down. He stayed focused, undeterred by the external noise.
As believers, we too must remember that our mission—whether it’s to serve, lead, or simply walk in obedience to God’s calling—is greater than any threat from the world around us. The enemy will always try to disrupt the plans God has for us, but just like Nehemiah, we must stand firm and refuse to let anything deter us from our God-given mission.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for reminding us through Nehemiah’s story that we must not let the threats or opposition of the world stop us from fulfilling the mission You have set before us. Give us the courage to remain steadfast in our calling, knowing that You are with us and that Your plans will not fail. Help us to keep our eyes on You, trusting that You will give us success as we work to build Your Kingdom. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
