Stay on the Wall
Nehemiah 6:3 (NIV)
“So I sent messengers to them with this reply: ‘I am carrying on a great project and cannot go down. Why should the work stop while I leave it and go down to you?’”
The task of rebuilding Jerusalem’s walls was no small endeavor. It was a monumental project that required focus, dedication, and resilience. Despite the constant distractions, mockery, and threats from Sanballat and his allies, Nehemiah’s commitment to the work never wavered. When the enemies tried to lure him away from the wall, offering distractions and opposition, Nehemiah responded with determination: “I am carrying on a great project and cannot go down.” His mission was too important to be interrupted.
This attitude is a profound lesson for us. In our walk with Christ, we are often called to build—whether that’s building our families, our ministries, or our faith. But just like Nehemiah, we will face distractions. The enemy will try to pull us away from what matters most. He may use fear, criticism, or tempting offers to sidetrack us. But we must remember: our purpose is too great to abandon.
Nehemiah’s refusal to come down teaches us the power of focus and perseverance. The work God has called us to is eternal and impactful, and we must remain steadfast. We must not allow distractions—whether external or internal—to derail us from God’s mission. Like Nehemiah, we must stay on the wall, refusing to come down, even when the opposition is loud or when we feel weary.
Prayer:
Lord, help us to remain focused and committed to the work You have called us to. Just like Nehemiah, help us to stay on the wall, refusing to come down when distractions and opposition arise. Give us the strength to stay faithful and keep building, knowing that the work we are doing for You is of eternal significance. In Jesus' name, Amen.
