Proof in the Opposition
1 Corinthians 16:9 (NIV)
“A great door for effective work has opened to me, and there are many who oppose me.”
When Nehemiah set out to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem, he immediately faced fierce opposition. Sanballat and Tobiah, feeling threatened by Nehemiah’s leadership and the mission, tried everything they could to stop the progress. They mocked, ridiculed, and even threatened physical harm. Yet, Nehemiah did not view these attacks as a sign to quit. Instead, he understood something vital: opposition often serves as proof that what you are doing truly matters.
In life, when we are doing something of eternal value—whether it’s building a family rooted in faith, leading a ministry, or advancing the Kingdom of God—we can expect resistance. The enemy does not waste time attacking what poses no threat. The greater the mission, the greater the opposition. But rather than allowing opposition to discourage us, we should see it as confirmation that we are on the right track.
Nehemiah did not back down. Instead, he stood firm, knowing that the work God had called him to was significant. As believers, we must remember this truth: when we face opposition, it is often a sign that the work we are doing is making an impact in the spiritual realm. We are building something that matters. Therefore, we must keep building, keep advancing, and trust that God is with us in every moment of resistance.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for the reminder that opposition is often a sign that we are doing something that matters. Help us to remain steadfast when we face resistance, knowing that You are with us and that our labor is not in vain. Give us the strength to push forward, even when the road gets tough, trusting that You will bring the work to completion. In Jesus' name, Amen.
