Our Response
2 Corinthians 10:4 (NIV)
“The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds.”
Throughout the rebuilding process, Nehemiah faced relentless opposition from Sanballat, Tobiah, and their allies. These enemies used every tactic available to try to stop the work. From mocking and ridicule to physical threats and deceptive schemes, their methods were designed to discourage and disrupt Nehemiah’s mission. But Nehemiah’s response was a masterclass in spiritual warfare. Instead of relying on worldly methods, he responded with prayer, discernment, and unwavering commitment to his purpose.
Sanballat’s tactics were worldly—fear, intimidation, and lies. He sought to stop the progress by attacking Nehemiah’s character and undermining the vision. But Nehemiah understood that the battle was not against flesh and blood. He knew that to overcome these attacks, he needed the weapons of prayer, faith, and discernment. When the enemy tried to deceive him with false prophets and intimidate him with threats, Nehemiah relied on God’s strength and wisdom to stay focused on the work.
This contrast between Sanballat’s worldly methods and Nehemiah’s spiritual response teaches us an important lesson. The challenges we face in life are not always physical or visible; many times, they are spiritual in nature. The enemy will try to use fear, lies, and distractions to stop us from fulfilling God’s mission. But just like Nehemiah, we must respond with the spiritual weapons God has given us—prayer, faith, and the authority of His Word. Our battle is not fought with the methods of the world but with the divine power that demolishes strongholds.
Prayer:
Lord, we thank You for the example of Nehemiah and the reminder that our weapons are not of this world. Help us to stand firm in the face of opposition, relying on prayer, faith, and the power of Your Word. Give us discernment to recognize the enemy’s tactics and the strength to overcome them. May we always respond with faith and trust in You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
