When You Drift

1 Samuel 10:6 (NIV)
“The Spirit of the Lord will come powerfully upon you… and you will be changed into a different person.”

There’s a moment in Saul’s life that’s nothing short of miraculous. He’s just been told that he’ll be king, and as he approaches a group of worshippers coming down from the high place, something happens. The Spirit of the Lord rushes over him. He begins to prophesy. He starts worshiping. The Bible says he was “changed into a different person.” That’s not just poetic—it’s transformational. In that moment, God took an insecure man and gave him a new identity. That’s what happens in His presence.

But Saul didn’t stay there.

Life got busy. The crown got heavy. The victories stacked up, but so did the distractions. He started conquering, leading, fighting—and somewhere along the way, he stopped going back to the place where it all began. That place where his heart was softened. That place where his identity was clear. That place where God’s presence made him new. And because he didn’t return, insecurity crept back in… and the cycle started all over again.

It’s so easy to do, isn’t it? We have that one moment where God changed everything—maybe at an altar, maybe during a worship night, maybe in the quiet of your room—and we walk out full of faith. But then life happens. We drift. Not intentionally, but gradually. We get caught up in what we’re doing for God and forget to just sit with Him. And before we know it, we’re back to wondering who we are again.

Here’s the truth: the change is real—but you’ve got to keep returning to the One who made it happen. Don’t let your memory of that moment be the only connection you have to it. Go back. Go back in prayer. Go back in worship. Go back in surrender. Because the God who changed you once isn’t finished with you yet.

Prayer:
Lord, thank You for the moment You changed me. I remember what it felt like when Your presence washed over me and made me new. But I confess—I’ve drifted. I’ve let the noise of life pull me away from that place of intimacy with You. Help me to return, not just once, but daily. Remind me that real change isn’t a one-time experience—it’s a daily surrender. Draw me close again. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
