You Might Be Offended With God

Matthew 11:6 (NKJV)
And blessed is he who is not offended because of Me.

John the Baptist was the one who prepared the way for Jesus. He baptized Him. He watched the heavens open and heard the Father’s voice. But when John landed in prison—when life didn’t unfold the way he expected—he sent a message to Jesus that essentially said, “Are You really the One?” He didn’t doubt Jesus’ power; he doubted Jesus’ plan.

Jesus responded by listing the miracles, the evidence, the fruit—and then He said, “Blessed is the one who is not offended because of Me.” In other words: Don’t let unmet expectations rob you of your faith in Me.

Maybe your offense didn’t start with a person. Maybe it started with God. Maybe He didn’t show up the way you thought He would. Maybe He didn’t heal, restore, or answer the way you prayed He would. That wound gets buried deep, and if it’s not dealt with, you’ll start seeing everyone else through it—every pastor, every friend, every leader.

Offense with God is often the root of offense with others. But Jesus invites you back into trust. Even when the plan confuses you. Even when the prison feels unfair. Even when it seems like He’s blessing others while you sit in disappointment—He’s still good, and He’s still God.

Prayer:
Jesus, I bring You the offense I didn’t know I was carrying. The hurt, the confusion, the disappointment. I confess that I’ve doubted Your goodness when life didn’t go how I wanted. Heal what’s been bruised in my heart. Help me trust You again. I don’t want to stumble over what I don’t understand—I want to stand firm in who You are. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
