From Well to Spring
John 4:13–14
Jesus answered, "Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life."
Jesus met a woman at a well, but He didn’t offer her better access to the same kind of water. He offered her a new source altogether. He told her that what she had been drawing from — her past, her pain, her own strength — would never satisfy. But what He would place inside her would become a spring. Not a bucket to dip from when life got hard, but a constant, internal flow of living water. This is not about survival. It’s about overflow.
Many of us live like wells. We store up what we can. We dip in when we’re dry. We try to ration out our peace, our joy, and our energy. But Jesus didn’t call you to live like a storage tank. He called you to live like a spring. A spring doesn’t need to be drawn from. It doesn’t need to be stirred. It just flows because it is connected to something deeper. When the Holy Spirit fills your life, He creates a source inside of you that does not run out.
You were never meant to rely on just getting filled up on Sundays or surviving on leftover Word from weeks ago. You were made to live in constant connection with the source. You were meant to become the spring Jesus spoke of. If your life feels dry, maybe it’s because you’ve been trying to live like a well when Jesus already gave you the ability to be a spring. Let His Spirit refresh you today, and then let that life flow from you into the world around you.
Prayer:
Jesus, I don’t want to live like a well anymore. I want to live like a spring. Let Your Spirit rise up within me and overflow into everything I do. Help me stay connected to You today. Teach me to stop dipping and start flowing. Let what You’ve placed in me bring life to others. In Your name, Amen.
