The Code for Life

Acts 1:8 (NIV)
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.

Inside every living thing is DNA. It’s a microscopic molecule, but it contains the entire set of instructions needed to build and sustain life. If you stretched out the DNA from just one of your cells, it would be about six feet long, yet it’s wound so tightly it fits inside a space so small you can’t see it without a powerful microscope.

Every living thing, from the smallest plant to the largest whale is written in the same four-letter code. The sequence of those letters tells the cell how to build every protein, repair damage, adapt to changes, and replicate itself.

What’s incredible is that this code is universal and unchanging. The DNA in your heart cells is the same as the DNA in your brain cells, identical in every part of you. That’s why your body can heal, why new cells can replace old ones, and why your identity doesn’t change from one part of you to another. If you typed out your DNA like a book, it would fill about three billion letters. That’s the code God wrote into you before you ever took your first breath.

Without DNA, there is no life. Without a clear, healthy code, the body can’t function properly. The same is true for the church.

Restoration Church has a spiritual DNA, a God-given code that determines our growth, our health, and our mission. These are not values we created to sound good on paper. They are the values God has called us to live out in Frisco, Texas.

When we prayed about who God has called us to be, we didn’t ask, “Who do we want to be?” We asked, “God, who have You made us to be?” A flower doesn’t decide to become a lion. It lives out the design it was given.

Our DNA is made up of ten values:
•Evangelism
•Community
•Worship
•The Next Generation
•Serving
•Diversity
•Generosity
•Family
•Truth-Based Teaching
•Prayer

These values are the code that shapes everything we do. They are how we live out Acts 1:8 in our context, starting at home, then into our city, then to the ends of the earth.

Just as you can tell a creature by its DNA, scales and gills mean it’s a fish, you should be able to tell a church by its spiritual DNA.

Jesus said in John 13:35:
“By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”

People should know we belong to Christ by the way we love, serve, and carry ourselves. If we carry His DNA, our lives will look like His. And if we don’t look like Christ, we’re not living out the code He’s written into us.

Without DNA, there is no life. Without Christ’s DNA in the church, there is no mission. The life He’s given us isn’t meant to stay hidden — it’s meant to be lived, seen, and shared until the whole world knows.

Prayer:
Lord, thank You for writing Your life into me. Thank You for giving me a spiritual DNA that carries Your love, truth, and mission. Help me to live in a way that reflects who You are, so that others can clearly see You in me. Amen.
