From Curiosity to Commitment
John 19:39
“He was accompanied by Nicodemus, the man who earlier had visited Jesus at night.”
Nicodemus first came to Jesus at night. He was curious, cautious, and searching. He believed there was something different about Jesus, but fear still held him back. He had a reputation to protect and a position to maintain. Coming in secret felt safer.
Yet something slowly changed inside of him. In John 7, Nicodemus begins defending Jesus before the Pharisees. By John 19, he is publicly helping prepare the body of Jesus for burial. The man who once hid in the shadows is now openly identifying himself with Christ when many others had fled.
That progression is important because spiritual growth is often a process. Some people experience dramatic transformation instantly, while others grow step by step as truth takes root in their hearts. God is patient with people who are genuinely seeking Him. He continues drawing, shaping, and transforming them over time.
Nicodemus reminds us that Jesus is not intimidated by honest questions or imperfect faith. He invites searching people into deeper surrender. But eventually curiosity must lead to commitment. There comes a moment when we stop merely admiring Jesus from a distance and fully surrender our lives to Him.
Prayer
Father, thank You for being patient with me as You grow my faith. Help me move beyond curiosity and into full commitment. Give me courage to publicly identify with Jesus and faithfully follow wherever He leads. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
