Is He Your King?
Matthew 16:15-16 (NLT)
“Then he asked them, ‘But who do you say I am?’ Simon Peter answered, ‘You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.’”
The entire conversation at Caesarea Philippi ultimately came down to one question: “Who do you say that I am?” Jesus did not ask His disciples for information. He wasn’t conducting a survey. He was calling for a decision. In a world full of competing voices, false gods, and divided loyalties, Jesus wanted to know where they stood.
That question still confronts every person today. It is possible to admire Jesus without following Him. It is possible to agree with His teachings without surrendering to His authority. It is possible to attend church, know Bible stories, and even believe certain facts about Him without ever making Him King of your life. Yet Christianity is not simply about believing that Jesus existed. It is about recognizing who He is and responding accordingly.
Peter’s confession changed everything. He didn’t merely acknowledge Jesus as a teacher or prophet. He declared Him to be the Messiah, the Son of the living God. That confession carried with it surrender, allegiance, trust, and obedience. To call Jesus Lord means that He has authority over every area of our lives. Our priorities, our relationships, our decisions, and our future all belong to Him.
As this week comes to a close, take a moment to honestly answer the question Jesus asked. Not what your family believes. Not what your church believes. Not what culture says. What do you believe? If Jesus truly is the Messiah, then He deserves more than a place in your life. He deserves first place. The question is not whether Jesus is King. The question is whether He will be YOUR King.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for sending Jesus to be my Savior and King. Help me not merely to know about Him, but to fully surrender my life to Him. Let my words, choices, and actions reflect my allegiance to Christ. Teach me to trust Him, follow Him, and place Him above everything else. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
