The Helper
Romans 8:26
“Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses.”
The Christian life is impossible to live in our own strength. Most believers eventually discover this truth through experience. We try harder to be patient. We work harder to overcome temptation. We make promises to God that we are determined to keep. Yet sooner or later we come face to face with our limitations.
This is exactly why Jesus sent the Holy Spirit. He knew that following Him would require more than human determination. We need divine help. The Holy Spirit comes alongside us and supplies what we lack. He gives strength when we are weak. He gives wisdom when we are confused. He gives courage when we are afraid. He helps us pray when we don’t know what to say.
Many Christians view dependence as weakness. Scripture teaches the opposite. Dependence upon God is one of the greatest signs of spiritual maturity. The strongest believers are not those who rely most upon themselves. They are those who rely most upon the Holy Spirit.
Think about the areas of your life where you feel overwhelmed today. Perhaps there is a relationship that feels broken, a temptation that seems persistent, or a burden that has become too heavy to carry. Instead of trying harder, what if you invited the Holy Spirit to help you? What if dependence replaced striving?
God never asked you to carry life’s burdens alone. He gave you a Helper.
Prayer:
Holy Spirit, thank You for helping me in my weakness. Teach me to depend on Your strength rather than my own. Help me trust You in the areas where I feel overwhelmed today. Amen.
