The Teacher
John 14:26
“But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.”
One of the greatest ministries of the Holy Spirit is teaching believers the truth of God’s Word. Jesus promised His disciples that the Holy Spirit would teach them and remind them of everything He had spoken. While that promise had a unique application to the apostles who would later record the teachings of Christ, it also reveals an ongoing ministry of the Holy Spirit in the life of every believer.
Have you ever read a passage of Scripture that you’ve read dozens of times before, only to suddenly see something you had never noticed? Have you ever sat in a church service and felt as though God was speaking directly to your situation? Have you ever encountered a verse at exactly the moment you needed it most? Those moments are often evidence of the Holy Spirit’s work.
The Holy Spirit does not give new revelation that contradicts Scripture. He illuminates the revelation God has already given. He opens our eyes to see what has been there all along. He helps us understand God’s character, God’s promises, and God’s purposes. He takes biblical truth from our heads and presses it into our hearts.
This is why two people can read the same passage and walk away with completely different experiences. One person simply gathers information while another experiences transformation. The difference is often the work of the Holy Spirit. He has a way of taking a familiar verse and making it feel as though God wrote it specifically for you that morning.
Many believers struggle because they approach Scripture merely as a book to study rather than a conversation with God. They read for information but never pause for illumination. The Bible was never meant to be read apart from the Spirit who inspired it. The same Holy Spirit who inspired the writers of Scripture now helps believers understand and apply its truth.
As you open God’s Word today, don’t simply ask, “What does this passage say?” Ask, “Holy Spirit, what are You teaching me through this passage?” The goal is not simply to gain knowledge. The goal is to be transformed into the image of Christ.
Prayer:
Holy Spirit, thank You for being my Teacher. Open my eyes to understand Your Word. Help me move beyond information and experience transformation as I spend time in Scripture today. Amen.
