Someone Else's Miracle
1 Corinthians 12:7 (NIV)
“Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good.”
One of the most remarkable truths about spiritual gifts is that they were never intended to stop with us. Every gift the Holy Spirit gives has someone else’s name attached to it. Think about that for a moment. If God gives someone a word of encouragement, it’s because someone else needs encouragement. If He gives wisdom, it’s because someone else needs direction. If He gives faith, it’s because someone else’s faith is beginning to waver. If He heals, comforts, strengthens, or encourages through one believer, it’s because another believer desperately needed to experience His grace. Spiritual gifts have never been about elevating the person through whom they flow. They exist to reveal the goodness of the God from whom they came.
This stands in sharp contrast to the culture we live in. Our world constantly encourages us to ask, “What’s in it for me?” We evaluate opportunities, relationships, and even church through the lens of personal benefit. Yet the Kingdom of God turns that thinking upside down. The Holy Spirit asks a different question: “Who can you bless today?” Every gift He distributes carries with it an assignment to serve someone else. That’s why Paul reminds us that the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good. God’s gifts are never an end in themselves. They are channels through which His love, grace, and power flow into the lives of others.
It’s worth asking ourselves how often we begin the day thinking this way. Most mornings our minds are consumed with schedules, responsibilities, deadlines, and problems we need God to solve. While there is certainly nothing wrong with bringing our needs to Him, imagine how different our day might look if we also prayed, “Holy Spirit, who needs You today? Is there someone You want me to encourage? Is there someone who needs prayer? Is there someone whose burden You want me to help carry?” That simple shift moves us from living with a consumer mindset to living with a servant’s heart. Suddenly every conversation becomes an opportunity for God to work, every interruption becomes a divine appointment, and every relationship becomes a place where His grace can be displayed.
Perhaps someone is waiting on the other side of your obedience today. They may never know that before they crossed your path, you prayed for God to use you. They may never realize that your phone call, your encouragement, your prayer, or your simple act of kindness was an answer to something they had been asking God for. But that’s often how the Holy Spirit works. He quietly moves through ordinary people who are willing to say, “Lord, here I am. Use me.” Never underestimate what God can accomplish through one life that remains available to Him.
Prayer
Father, thank You for entrusting me with Your grace and allowing me to be part of what You are doing in the lives of others. Open my eyes today to the people around me who need hope, encouragement, wisdom, or prayer. Help me to live with open hands and an available heart, always ready for the Holy Spirit to work through me. May my life never point people to myself but always lead them to Jesus. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
