Love Made Visible
A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another. - John 13:34–35

About 160 years after the events of Acts 2, the Christian writer Tertullian described how believers gathered, prayed, read Scripture, encouraged one another, and contributed to a common fund. That fund cared for orphans, supported the elderly, helped prisoners, assisted victims of shipwreck, fed the poor, and provided burials for those whose families couldn’t afford them.
Their theology became visible through their service.
Tertullian reported that outsiders observed these Christians and said, “See how they love one another.” People may not have understood everything Christians believed, but they couldn’t deny the love they witnessed.
Jesus said love would be the distinguishing mark of His disciples. He didn’t say the world would primarily recognize us through our buildings, programs, branding, or influence. He said people would recognize that we belonged to Him by the way we loved one another.
Love must eventually become action. It is easy to say we care about people, but serving gives love a visible form. It notices the overwhelmed parent, welcomes the anxious guest, provides for the struggling family, sits with the grieving, and carries the burden of someone who can no longer carry it alone.
The early Church didn’t merely preach that Jesus loved the world. They showed the world what His love looked like. That is still our calling.
People may disagree with our beliefs, but they should encounter undeniable evidence of Christ’s love through the way we serve. Every act of service becomes a demonstration of the gospel: God saw our need, moved toward us, and gave Himself for us.

If someone observed only the way you treat and serve others, what would they conclude about Jesus?
Is your love primarily something you feel and say, or has it become visible through action?
Who around you currently needs to experience God’s love in a practical way?

Meet a need, provide encouragement, share a resource, or give your time to someone who needs support.
PRAYER
Father, thank You for making Your love visible through Jesus. Keep my faith from becoming something I only discuss or believe privately. Teach me to notice people, respond to needs, and love others through practical action. May the way I serve help people recognize that I belong to You. Let Restoration Church be known as a people who demonstrate the love we proclaim. Amen.
