WORTHY IS THE LAMB

Worthy is the Lamb who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and might and honor and glory and blessing! Revelation 5:12

DEVOTIONAL
Worship changes our focus, strengthens our faith, unites the Church, and sustains us through hardship. These are beautiful results of worship, but they are not its ultimate purpose. We do not worship God only because worship helps us. We worship because God is worthy.

Revelation 4 describes heaven worshiping God because He created all things. Revelation 5 turns the attention toward Jesus, the Lamb who was slain and who purchased people for God through His blood.

He is worthy because He created us, and He is worthy because He redeemed us. We do not worship as a formula to open prison doors. We worship even if the doors remain closed. We do not worship only when we feel His presence. We worship because He is holy. We do not worship only when the prayer is answered the way we hoped. We worship because He gave His Son, conquered death, forgave our sins, and opened the way into His presence.

Worship is not about convincing God to do something. Worship is our response to what He has already done and who He has always been.

If God never performed another miracle, the cross has already given us a reason to worship Him forever. Jesus entered our brokenness, carried our sin, endured the cross, defeated the grave, and offered us eternal life. That is why heaven continually declares, "Worthy is the Lamb."

One day, every tribe, language, people, and nation will gather before Him. Every earthly distraction will disappear. Every accomplishment will fade. Jesus will remain at the center, receiving the honor that has always belonged to Him.

We do not have to wait until heaven to join that song.

REFLECT
Do I primarily worship for what I hope to receive or because God is worthy?

How does the cross shape my worship?

Would I continue to worship if my circumstances did not immediately change?

TODAY'S STEP
Spend time worshiping without asking God for anything. Focus completely upon who He is and what Jesus has already done.

PRAYER
Worthy are You, Jesus. You created me, pursued me, saved me, and opened the way into God's presence. I will worship when the doors open and when they remain closed. I will worship on the mountaintop and in the valley. Receive my attention, affection, voice, and life. All honor, glory, and praise belong to You. Amen.
