THE SECRET PLACE

When you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. Matthew 6:6

DEVOTIONAL
Jesus did not say 'if' you pray. He said 'when' you pray. He expected prayer to be a normal part of a disciple's life.Jesus warned against using prayer as a public performance. Prayer is not an opportunity to impress people with spiritual language. It is an invitation to meet honestly with the Father. The secret place removes the pressure to perform because no one is present except God.

Corporate prayer is powerful, but it cannot replace private prayer. There are things God wants to form within us when nobody else is listening, no music is playing, and there is no crowd to observe us. The strength people see in public is often born through conversations with God that no one sees in private.

Some people avoid prayer because they do not know what to say. But prayer is learned by praying. No healthy relationship begins with perfect communication. We grow more comfortable through consistent conversation, honesty, listening, and time.

The secret place may be a room in your home, a chair beside a window, your car before work, or a quiet walk through the neighborhood. The location is less important than the decision to remove distractions and give God your undivided attention.

What happens in secret will eventually affect how you live in public. Private prayer produces public strength. It prepares your heart before the pressure comes, anchors your identity in the Father's love, and teaches you to recognize His voice amid the noise of life.

REFLECT
Do you currently have a consistent time and place for private prayer?

What would you need to remove or rearrange to protect that time?

TODAY'S STEP
Create a 'secret place.' Choose one location, silence your phone, and spend at least fifteen minutes alone with God.

PRAYER
Father, meet me in the secret place. Deliver me from distraction, performance, and hurry. Teach me to enjoy time alone with You. Form in private the faith, character, and strength I will need in public. May my life flow from a genuine relationship with You. In Jesus' name, amen.
