This week in our Why Church series, we ask why prayer matters. We look back to Acts 1:14 to see that the church was born not through strategy but through prayer, as the early believers gathered and prayed before Peter ever preached in Acts 2. We unpack John 15:5 to understand that apart from Jesus we can do nothing, and how prayer is where our dependence on God becomes visible rather than just another program we run. We look at James 4:8 and the Lord's Prayer to see that prayer is less a transaction for answers and more a relationship that draws us near to God's heart, and we examine Matthew 6:6 to see why a private prayer life matters even when corporate prayer is powerful. Using Acts 4, where Peter and John faced real opposition and the believers prayed not for the threat to disappear but for boldness, we see that prayer does not always change the situation, but it always changes something. We close with the reminder that private prayer forms the disciple while corporate prayer forms the church, and we need both.
