This week in our Why Church series, we explore why we serve. Starting again in Acts 2:42-47, we look at how the early church became known for showing what the love of Jesus looked like rather than simply preaching it, so much so that outsiders like the historian Tertullian remarked on how they loved one another. We unpack Matthew 20:26-28, where Jesus redefines greatness as servanthood, and we look at how every believer, not just the spiritually elite, has received a gift meant to be used for others according to 1 Peter 4:10 and Ephesians 4:11-12. Through the stories of Tabitha in Acts 9, whose quiet ministry of making garments left a lasting legacy, and a volunteer named Bobby Mills whose willingness to show up at a youth camp helped shape a future pastor, we see that no act of service is insignificant when it helps someone encounter Jesus.
