God Builds What is Eternal

Revelation 3:12
The one who is victorious I will make a pillar in the temple of my God. Never again will they leave it.

When Jesus spoke these words to the church in Philadelphia, He was speaking to a people who knew instability. Their city was built in a region prone to earthquakes, and tremors were so frequent that many residents refused to live within the city walls. Buildings cracked. Pillars fell. Life was unpredictable. Yet to these weary believers, Jesus promised something permanent: “I will make you a pillar in the temple of my God.”

What a powerful image. While everything around them could be shaken, Jesus was building something unshakable within them. Their faithfulness in the face of weakness became the foundation of something eternal. God was reminding them, and us, that His work in our lives is not fragile or temporary. What He builds cannot be broken by the shifting ground of this world.

This is the hope of every believer. Our strength will fade, seasons will change, and the world around us will tremble, but the work of Christ in us remains. God isn’t building temporary success stories; He’s building eternal testimonies. Our obedience now becomes the material of what He establishes forever. When our lives are rooted in eternity, we stand firm even when the ground shakes.

Faithfulness today prepares us for permanence tomorrow. We may not see the full picture yet, but one day we’ll stand as living pillars in His kingdom: unmoved, secure, and surrounded by His glory.

Prayer:
Lord, thank You that what You build in me is eternal. When the world feels unstable, anchor my heart in Your unshakable kingdom. Help me live with eternity in view and trust that You are forming something lasting in my life. Amen.
