Let Go to Grow

2 Corinthians 9:6 (NIV)
Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously.

Paul uses a farming picture because it exposes something we don’t like to admit: you can’t reap what you don’t release. A farmer can stare at a field all day, pray over it, dream about the harvest, and even talk about what he hopes to see. But until he puts seed into the ground, nothing grows. Seed sitting in a bag will never produce fruit. It only multiplies when it’s released. Generosity works the same way. We can desire to be generous and still hold tightly to the very things God wants us to sow.

The problem is, holding on feels safer than planting. Fear whispers, “What if you don’t have enough?” Scarcity says, “Wait until your situation improves.” But generosity isn’t about waiting for perfect conditions, it’s about trusting God enough to obey right now. When we let go with open hands, we make room for God to move in ways closed hands could never experience. Release is what unlocks increase. Not increase in comfort or wealth, but increase in purpose, joy, and spiritual maturity.

When we sow generously, we partner with God’s heart. We align ourselves with Kingdom principles that have been true since creation: what you plant determines what you harvest. If we withhold, we’ll always wonder why nothing changes. But if we sow into the work of God, into people, into His mission, we step into the flow of His blessing and purpose. Not because we’re “paying God back,” but because we’re trusting Him enough to plant what He’s given us. And God never wastes a seed of faith.

Today, release something you’ve been holding onto. Maybe it’s money. Maybe it’s control. Maybe it’s simply the fear of not having enough. Whatever it is, choose to put seed in the ground. Your spiritual growth is on the other side of your release.

Prayer:
Father, give me the courage to release what I’ve been holding onto. Teach me to sow in faith, not fear. Help me trust that what I plant in obedience, You will use for Your glory. Grow my heart, my faith, and my obedience as I choose to let go. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
