Immanuel in the Unknown
Matthew 1:22-23
“All of this occurred to fulfill the Lord’s message through his prophet. ‘Look. The virgin will conceive a child. She will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel, which means God is with us.’”
Joseph heard the angel’s words, but he still had to wake up the next morning and live them out. He still had to face conversations, uncertainties, and a future that did not look anything like the one he expected. Faith is rarely tested in the moment of revelation. It is tested in the steps that follow. Yet God gave Joseph something stronger than explanations. He gave him a name. Immanuel. God with us.
Immanuel is not just a Christmas word. It is a promise for every unknown in your life. God did not remove the challenges Joseph would face. He did not erase the confusion or silence the whispers Joseph would hear. What God gave him was presence. God with him. God beside him. God in every next step he would take. And that was enough.
We often want God to clear the path before we walk it. Joseph reminds us that God’s presence is the path. The unknown is no longer something to fear when you realize you are not walking into it alone. God is already ahead of you, already in the details you have not yet seen, already preparing what you will need when you get there.
Today, let the name Immanuel settle into your heart. You may not have every answer, but you have His presence. You may not know what tomorrow holds, but you know who walks into tomorrow with you. That is the confidence Joseph carried, and it is the confidence you can carry too.
Prayer
Father, thank You for being Immanuel. Thank You for being with me in every unknown moment of my life. Help me trust Your presence more than I fear uncertainty. Remind me that I do not walk alone and that You go before me in every step I take. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
