The Holy Spirit Leads

Luke 2:25–27
“At that time there was a man in Jerusalem named Simeon. He was righteous and devout and was eagerly waiting for the Messiah to come and rescue Israel. The Holy Spirit was upon him. The Holy Spirit had revealed to him that he would not die before he had seen the Lord’s Messiah. That day the Spirit led him to the Temple.”

Luke goes out of his way to tell us that Simeon’s life was shaped by the Holy Spirit. The Spirit was upon him. The Spirit had revealed God’s promise to him. And on the very day that promise would be fulfilled, the Spirit led him. Simeon did not stumble into the temple by chance. He was guided there by God.

Simeon had waited a long time. Scripture says he was eagerly waiting for the Messiah, which means his life was marked by expectation and patience. The waiting did not make him passive. It made him attentive. He lived in such a way that when the Spirit prompted him, he recognized the leading and obeyed.

Many believers struggle with direction because they want clarity without closeness. Simeon shows us a different way. Direction flowed from relationship. The Spirit guided his steps because Simeon lived a life sensitive to God’s voice. God was not silent. Simeon was listening.

Where God guides, He supplies. God does not call us to guess our way through His will. He supplies direction through His Spirit, often one step at a time. Like Simeon, our role is to stay attentive and obedient.

Prayer:
Holy Spirit, help me live attentive to Your voice. Guide my steps and lead me where You want me to go. I trust You to direct my life. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
