The Spirit Empowers

Luke 3:21–22
“As he was praying, the heavens opened, and the Holy Spirit, in bodily form, descended on him like a dove. And a voice from heaven said, ‘You are my dearly loved Son, and you bring me great joy.’”

Jesus did not begin His public ministry without the empowerment of the Holy Spirit. Luke makes it clear that as Jesus was praying, the Spirit descended on Him. This moment marks the transition from preparation to calling, from private life to public ministry.

The Father’s voice affirmed Jesus’ identity, but the Spirit’s presence empowered His mission. Jesus had not yet preached, healed, or performed miracles. The Spirit came first. God supplied what was needed before the work began.

This matters because it shows us God’s pattern. Calling is never sustained by human strength alone. God supplies empowerment through His Spirit so His purposes can be fulfilled. Even Jesus chose to depend on the Spirit as He stepped into His calling.

Where God guides, He supplies. If God is calling you into something new, He will also supply the power needed to walk it out. Dependence on the Holy Spirit is not optional. It is essential.

Prayer:
God, thank You for calling me. I rely on Your Spirit to empower me to walk in what You have placed on my life. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
