The Seventh Time
1 Kings 18:44 (NKJV)
“Then it came to pass the seventh time, that he said, ‘There is a cloud, as small as a man’s hand, rising out of the sea!’”
Elijah’s prayer on Mount Carmel teaches us persistence. Six times he prayed and saw nothing. No evidence. No sign. Just silence. Many would have stopped. Many do stop. But faith is not measured by speed. It is measured by endurance.
The breakthrough came on the seventh time. A cloud the size of a man’s hand. Small, but significant. It was not rain yet, but it was a promise. God often answers in seed form before harvest form. The small cloud was proof that heaven had responded.
Fasting strengthens perseverance. It trains us to pray when nothing seems to change. It teaches us to trust God’s timing over our expectations. When we stay faithful, God remains faithful.
If you are weary, do not quit now. The seventh hand is still moving. The cloud is still forming.
Prayer:
God, give us strength to keep praying when we see no immediate change. Help us trust that You are working even when evidence is small. We wait on You with faith. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
