Faith That Confronts Fear

Read: Hebrews 11:23–31 (Read the whole passage, then go back and focus on verses 24–27.)

Hebrews 11:24
“By faith Moses, when he had grown up, refused to be known as the son of Pharaoh’s daughter.”

Faith does not eliminate fear. Faith decides what to do in the presence of fear.

Moses had every reason to stay where he was. Power. Security. Influence. Comfort. Yet Hebrews tells us that by faith he refused that identity. He chose obedience over safety and suffering with God’s people over the fleeting pleasures of sin.

That word fleeting matters. Fear often promises protection, but it only delivers temporary relief. Faith looks beyond the moment and asks a better question. What does obedience cost now, and what does disobedience cost later?

Verse 27 says Moses persevered because “he saw Him who is invisible.” That does not mean Moses never felt fear. It means fear did not get the final vote. His perspective was shaped by God’s presence, not by immediate danger.

Rahab’s story reinforces this. She acted in faith while surrounded by real risk. Her obedience was not comfortable, celebrated, or safe. But it was decisive. Faith moved her to action before the outcome was guaranteed.

This passage reminds us that courage is not the absence of fear. Courage is obedience that refuses to let fear rule the heart.

Perspective shifts when we realize that fear is not always a signal to stop. Sometimes fear is simply evidence that faith is required.

Reflect
•Where has fear been influencing your decisions?
•What has fear convinced you to protect at the expense of obedience?
•What would it look like to trust God more than the outcome you are afraid of?

Prayer
God, You know the fears I carry.
You see the risks I am facing and the uncertainty ahead.
Help me choose obedience over comfort.
Strengthen my faith so fear does not have the final word.
Teach me to see You clearly, even when circumstances feel overwhelming.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Action for Today
Name one fear that has been shaping your choices.
Ask God to show you what obedience looks like on the other side of that fear.

Do not rush the answer. Let God speak.

Tomorrow, we will slow down and look at faith that suffers without immediate rescue.
