Faith Requires Action
Joshua 3:13
“As soon as the priests who carry the ark… set foot in the Jordan, its waters… will be cut off.”
The miracle of the Jordan crossing did not begin when the water stopped. It began when the priests stepped forward in obedience. God promised that the river would stop, but the priests still had to place their feet into rushing water before the miracle occurred.
This pattern appears throughout Scripture. Naaman was healed after dipping in the river seven times. The widow’s oil multiplied when she began pouring. The boy’s lunch fed thousands when it was offered to Jesus. Faith is never merely internal belief. It is belief expressed through action.
James 2:17 reminds us that “faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.” Biblical faith is dynamic. It moves. It risks. It trusts God enough to obey even when the outcome is uncertain. The priests stepping into the Jordan illustrate the partnership between divine power and human obedience.
God often waits for us to take a step before He performs the miracle. Not because He lacks power, but because He desires participation. Faith honors God by trusting His word enough to act upon it.
For many believers, the miracle they are waiting for is waiting on their obedience. The river may not part until the first step is taken.
Prayer
God, give me the courage to act on the faith You have placed in my heart. Help me move beyond hesitation and step forward in obedience. I trust that You are working even when I cannot yet see the outcome. Strengthen my faith to walk where You lead. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
