Trusting God when it Makes No Sense
Joshua 3:15
“Now the Jordan is at flood stage all during harvest.”
The timing of God’s command to cross the Jordan seems illogical. The river was at its highest point during flood season. The current was strong, the banks overflowed, and crossing would have appeared impossible. Yet this was the moment God chose to lead His people forward.
From a human perspective, the rational strategy would have been to wait until the river receded. But God did not ask for strategic analysis. He asked for obedience. This moment revealed a critical truth about the nature of faith: God’s instructions will not always align with human reasoning.
Isaiah 55:8–9 reminds us that God’s thoughts are higher than ours and His ways surpass our understanding. If God only asked us to do what made perfect sense, faith would rarely be required. But when God leads us into situations beyond our logic, He invites us to trust His wisdom over our own.
God often allows circumstances to look impossible so that the outcome will clearly reveal His power. If the river had been shallow, Israel could have crossed on their own strength. But at flood stage, their only hope was divine intervention.
The places that look most impossible are often the places where God intends to reveal His glory.
Prayer
Father, help me trust You when circumstances do not make sense. Teach me to rely on Your wisdom rather than my own understanding. Even when the situation looks impossible, remind me that nothing is beyond Your power. I choose to follow Your leading. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
