Don't Settle in the Shallows
Revelation 3:16 (NIV)
“So, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth.”
One of the most dangerous places in the Christian life is the middle ground. It is possible to be close to the river and still never truly experience it. Many people live ankle-deep lives with God. They get just enough of Him to feel something occasionally, but not enough to truly change them.
Jesus spoke strongly about this kind of spiritual complacency. He warned the church in Laodicea about becoming lukewarm. Lukewarm faith is comfortable but powerless. It creates the appearance of spirituality without the transformation that comes from full surrender.
The shallow end of the river often feels safe. We can still maintain control. We can still keep parts of our lives untouched. But safety in the shallow end is an illusion. Growth, transformation, and purpose are always found deeper.
God is not calling His people to live halfway committed lives. He is calling us into the fullness of life that only comes from wholehearted devotion.
Prayer
Father, forgive me for the times I have settled for shallow faith. Stir my heart to pursue You fully and passionately. Help me move beyond lukewarm faith and live with wholehearted devotion to You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
